Default A question to the community

I have been a member of this forum since Feburary and have gone through the Beta's since November and on into release and I enjoy all aspects of the game. This is not to say that I feel the game is perfect, I don't but then again nothing is, especially a "game".
I have read thread after thread and most of the time its the same complaints or arguments over the same topics and it almost always the same, this part of the game is broken or these players should have this right or those players should be nerf'd because, x just ruined the game, y shouldn't be allowed and so on. Most of these issues have little or nothing to do with the "rules" of the game but more to do with style of play, personal preference and individual beliefs. I'll explain, lets take spamming the "all" chat with WTS or WTB, which is considered spam and is therefore a violation of the game guidlines. Making a "run" through Lornar's Pass is a personal choice and does NOT interfere with anyone elses gameplay which is not a violation of the "rules", now I may not agree with it, I may not like it, so I don't do it. My point is that I have seen it time and time again that these topics and others like them degrade into "stuff like that ruins the whole game" or " doing such and such is like cheating ", " I've played for x numbers of hours to get to point b and this person comes along and takes a shortcut and makes it in h number of hours, what a rip-off"
or one of my favorites "thats not fair that we have to work (grind I think it is refered to) to get this or that " I could go on but I think or hope you all get the picture, anyway there is NO middle ground for most of these posts its their way or no way.
I posted the question that follows in another thread and interestingly enough NO one posted and answer, I wonder why, regardless I'll ask it again mostly as a rhetorical question for you all to think about and post a reply if you like.

This question is to each one of you individually

If I buy my own personal copy of GW so that I can get on my computer and log into the game over the internet connection that I pay for, why do I have to play the game the way you see fit?

Good ol' message boards making games more fun these days . As long as Anet listens to these complaints, etc. and makes changes accordingly, the flamers will keep flaming, the whiners will keep whining, and you, sadly enough, will have to play the way they want it.

Totally agree with you.

I play the game in the way I like to play it. I do what I want, when I want and if I don't like it, I change district.
I'm not on as long as my guild mates, as I have other commitments and the weather is too nice to be stuck in doors all day playing games.

Yes, there is a lot of imature people in this game, but the same can be said about Real Life too.

In what I do for a job and the way i live my life, it pisses a lot of people off, that I work from home, get out of bed when my body tells me and not when the alarm clock says so, I don't do any regular job that I personally find really boring and brain numbing, but it pisses people off that I don't follow the crowd and head to an office for a 9-5 day.

In my way of life, I go against the flow. You butt heads along the way and piss off a lot of people, but if I get what I want to achieve out of it at the end of the day or at the end of my life, then I'm as happy as pie.

So, the moral to the story. Play it your way, put up with things, help change things if you can to help improve the overall experience across the board, but do what you want. (Within Reason and legality )
At the end of the day, if you let that person piss you off, it's only going to wind you up even more which in the end, you end up pissing other people off close to you because you are upset.

It always makes me laugh when someone cuts me up while I'm driving and has the balls to rant and rave at me for his mistake. He gets really annoyed, I just wave my hand and stick my thumb up and say thanks. It pisses him off even more, but he has to live with his attitude, I don't.

Probably gone way off topic now, but hey. Thats me.

I just made a PvP character. A smiting monk with a few traps thrown in to help with conditions and dmg. All but 1 team I was on complained the whole time. I was killing warriors solo and rezing the people that fell but it didn't matter. My team won 75% of the matches I was in, but because I tried something different all hell came down on me.

I also play a protection monk in PvE. Responses from people (even monks)
"OMFGWTF YOU DON"T HEAL?????!!!!!!11111"
"We need more healers go get a different team" *kick*

This morning I was playing my ranger. Trapping in the Temple of Ages. I got into a Fissure team all going well so far... I started setting traps and 2 or 3 people just went nuts.
"OMG you don't bring traps into fissue"
"Go to UW you NOOB"
"People really need to learn how to play this game"
I have helped people in fissure many times as a trapper. Done lots of quests and even get compliments on my skill with traps.

Don't let it get to you man. People are afraid to try something new. (not all but most) There are still a few of us out there that play for... (wait... I'm gonna say it....) FUN. It may seem hard to find us sometimes but we are here.

Okay, really. What do you expect people in a gaming forum to talk about? I am not dissing you, honestly. I get your point. But this stuff goes on in every forum I have ever visited, be they gaming forums or author forums or whatever. People visit forums mostly to ask for changes and to complain. It is NOT in human nature to go out of one's way to say everything is swell. Sad but true.

People don't go back through the drive-thru at McDonald's to tell the staff the hamburger was super. They only go back through when they have something to complain about or want an error corrected.

The answer to your question is simply that you do NOT have to play the way people say you should. However, they still have the right to complain and ASK that you do. And you have the right to not read their posts, or to read them and do nothing at all about what you read.

I agree with you entirely. But the same happens in every game's fansite, online RPG or not. And it always will happen. Some people can't understand that game developers don't develop the game for an individual, they have to develop the game for ALL their potential customers. Guild Wars appeals to a vast number of people (evident from their sales), all with different opinions, all with different personal preferences, and all from different cultures all across the globe. The chance of them satisfying every single person 100% is slim indeed.

Of course, the people who haven't had a game hand-made specifically for them are the most vocal group of all. After all, if you're satisfied you're not likely to look for a forum to opine because you will have no need to -- you already have everything you want. So the vocal people get their way, and the quiet people just put up with it.

It's not every forum, though. I'm a member of other forums where not one complain has been raised, and people can't speak highly enough of the game. And they've all been around through the betas too. Just goes to show that people who think their opinions are the right opinions are usually wrong. Unfortunately ANet will listen to them because they're the only people they can hear.
